As Karnataka moves forward with plans for a second airport in Bengaluru, Tamil Nadu is exploring the possibility of constructing a new airport in Hosur, a key industrial hub located just 40 kilometers from the city.

Industry bodies in Hosur are urging the state government to fast-track the process, requesting the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to conduct a detailed study of two shortlisted sites for the new airport. The Hosur Industries Association (HIA) and the Hosur Small and Tiny Industries Association (HOSTIA) have particularly advocated for the area near the privately owned Taneja Aerospace and Aviation (TAAL) airport, citing its strategic location and potential for development.

The proposed greenfield airport is expected to enhance both passenger and freight movement. Currently, industries in Hosur depend on Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, which is nearly 80 kilometers away. This distance leads to higher logistical costs and delays. A dedicated airport in Hosur would provide a more efficient and cost-effective alternative for cargo and business travel, contributing to the region’s growing industrial sector.

These associations have also called for swift land acquisition to avoid delays once the site is finalized. The push for the airport highlights Hosur’s increasing significance as a business and logistics center in the region.
