Officials stated that the impersonator contacted several unsuspecting individuals by projecting false official authority. By posing as the city’s top police officer, the accused allegedly gained the trust of victims and induced them to part with money under various false pretexts. Following multiple complaints from citizens who claimed they were cheated, the Cybercrime Police initiated legal action.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, 2000, for identity theft and cheating by impersonation.

Investigators also found that the same fake profile had been reused multiple times to approach different people, indicating a systematic attempt to defraud the public.

Police have launched a detailed investigation to identify and trace the person behind the fake account.
