In a strongly worded tweet, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya urged citizens and policymakers to shift their focus from car-centric infrastructure to public transport, drawing inspiration from London’s urban mobility transformation.

“London, like our city Bengaluru, suffered from a severe traffic congestion crisis. But they have addressed it very effectively,” Surya posted on X (formerly Twitter). “They didn’t build tunnel roads. They didn’t build more flyovers on flyovers. They addressed the root of the problem—cars.”

He highlighted how London made deliberate choices to slow down car traffic while making the city friendlier for pedestrians, cyclists, and public transport users. “They now have more cycles than cars,” he noted, urging people to “spare a few minutes and watch this video” explaining the shift.

The MP called on citizens to start demanding better public transport from their governments, rather than more roads for private vehicles. His remarks come as Bengaluru continues to struggle with crippling traffic congestion, despite expanding flyovers and proposing costly tunnel road projects.
