In a revelation that has stunned the tech and business world, Telegram founder and CEO Pavel Durov has announced that he plans to divide his entire fortune, valued at over $17 billion, among his more than 100 children. Durov, 40, disclosed that while six of the children were born through natural conception with three different partners, the majority, over 100 were conceived through anonymous sperm donations over the past 15 years across 12 countries.

Durov emphasized that all his children, regardless of how they were conceived, will receive equal inheritance rights. Based on current estimates, this would amount to between $131 million and $161 million per child. However, the inheritance will only be accessible starting in June 2055, 30 years from the date of the announcement. Durov stated that this condition is meant to ensure the children grow up independently and build their own paths without reliance on inherited wealth.
This unusual inheritance plan comes amid serious legal challenges. Durov is currently under investigation by French authorities, who arrested him in August 2024 at Bourget Airport. The probe, led by France’s OFMIN, centers on alleged misuse of Telegram by criminals involved in child abuse content, drug trafficking, and money laundering. Durov strongly denies all allegations and maintains that he is committed to user privacy and freedom of expression.
Telegram has defended its CEO, calling the accusations baseless and affirming that the platform complies with EU regulations, including the Digital Services Act. The company insists that blaming a communication platform for misuse by third parties is misguided.
These revelations and statements came during an in-depth interview with French magazine Le Point, where Durov also discussed his philosophical approach to parenting, wealth, and responsibility.
