Thalapathy Vijay's much-anticipated film Greatest of All Time (GOAT) opened to strong box office numbers globally, raking in an impressive Rs 170.75 crore in its first week. However, despite its international success, the film has failed to meet expectations in the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, where it is projected to cause heavy losses for distributors.

Telugu dubbing rights for GOAT were sold at over Rs 16 crore in these regions, a figure that reflected high hopes for the film's performance, given Vijay's rising popularity. Unfortunately, the film's underwhelming reception in the Telugu markets has led to distributors bracing for losses estimated at Rs 13 crore. GOAT managed to collect only Rs 2.5 crore in its opening days before earnings plummeted.
In contrast, the film continues to perform well in Tamil Nadu and overseas markets, particularly in the USA, further highlighting its uneven reception. Industry reports suggest the film grossed Rs 318 crore worldwide within six days, with Rs 162.75 crore coming from the Indian market.
Directed by Venkat Prabhu, GOAT takes place in a futuristic, sci-fi world, featuring Vijay in dual roles alongside an ensemble cast, including Prabhudheva, Prashanth, and Sneha. Despite its star-studded appeal, the movie fell short of expectations in the Telugu-speaking states.
