Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited Srinagar and Bhaisaram in Pahalgam today to assess the ground situation. His visit follows a string of security reviews aimed at addressing lapses and tightening defenses in the region.
As part of “Operation Aakraman,” the Indian Army has intensified troop deployments along the border with Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Simultaneously, the Indian Air Force has begun exercises involving frontline fighter jets, including the Sukhoi-30 MKI and French-made Rafale aircraft. Naval units have also been placed on high alert, participating in complementary drills.
India’s show of force underscores its military edge in the region. The country boasts a combined force strength exceeding 40 lakh personnel, including 14.8 lakh active duty troops and 13 lakh paramilitary forces. The Indian Army leads with 12.3 lakh soldiers, supported by 1.4 lakh in the Air Force and 68,000 in the Navy.
India fields 3,500 battle tanks and 606 combat aircraft—272 of which are Sukhoi-30s, alongside 30 Rafales and 120 Tejas. By comparison, Pakistan maintains 2,500 tanks and 387 fighter aircraft, including Chinese-made JF-17s and US-supplied F-16s.
In missile defense, India holds an advantage with the Russian S-400 Triumph system (range: 400 km) against Pakistan’s HQ-9B (range: 250 km). The Indian Navy, with over 150 warships, also significantly outnumbers its Pakistani counterpart.
Both nations remain nuclear-armed, with India possessing 172 warheads and Pakistan close behind with 170.
The Indian military remains on high alert as “Operation Aakraman” unfolds.
