In a significant escalation following the Pahalgam terror attack, Pakistan opened fire along the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pargawal sector, marking a rare and provocative move. This comes amid continuous ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) for the sixth straight day. Defence sources confirmed that India has responded effectively to the aggression.

While the LoC is a ceasefire line between the two nations, the International Border is an officially recognized boundary, making the cross-border firing even more serious. The firing comes just days after the deadly Pahalgam attack that killed 26 tourists and a local Kashmiri, sparking nationwide outrage.

In response, India has taken strong diplomatic and strategic measures. The Centre suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, canceled all visas for Pakistani nationals, reduced the number of diplomatic staff, and asked Pakistanis to leave the country. Pakistan retaliated by threatening to suspend all bilateral agreements, including the Simla Agreement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing the nation’s grief and anger, vowed a severe response. He warned that those behind the attack, and the masterminds sheltering them, would face unimaginable punishment. He emphasized that the unity and will of 140 crore Indians would dismantle terror at its roots.

Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the attack and urged both countries to seek justice lawfully and avoid further escalation.
