Over three weeks since the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, security forces remain without a breakthrough as the search for the culprits intensifies across the snow-covered terrain of Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Despite arresting and questioning more than 150 suspects, the police have yet to find a trace of the terrorists responsible for the bloodshed that shook the region.

The attack, which targeted a Hindu pilgrim convoy, left the nation outraged and triggered a massive manhunt. The Army, braving harsh conditions in the Baisaran Valley — a region marked by 25–40 km of difficult terrain, hills and dense forests — continues its combing operations. Officials say the attackers are believed to be hiding in these remote stretches, aided by a network that remains elusive.
Local cooperation has been minimal, with police and intelligence unable to extract credible leads from people suspected of helping the terrorists. In an attempt to incentivise information, the police have announced a ₹20 lakh reward for credible leads. Yet, the trail has gone cold.
Meanwhile, the attack has dealt a severe blow to Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism sector, especially with summer travel around the corner. Entrepreneur Anupam Mittal has extended his support to revive the industry, which has been badly hit by fear and cancellations post the attack.
