Tesla Inc. has initiated recruitment in India, indicating its readiness to enter the country’s electric vehicle (EV) market. The hiring move comes shortly after CEO Elon Musk met Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his US visit.

According to reports, Tesla has posted 13 job openings on LinkedIn, focusing on both customer-facing and operational roles. Positions such as service technicians and advisory roles are listed for Mumbai and Delhi, while roles like customer engagement manager and delivery operations specialist are exclusive to Mumbai.

Tesla has previously expressed interest in launching in India but was deterred by high import duties. However, a recent reduction in customs duty on luxury EVs—lowered from 110% to 70% for cars priced above $40,000—has improved the business prospects for global automakers.

India’s EV sector is still developing compared to markets like China, but it holds growth potential. While India recorded nearly 100,000 EV sales last year, China saw 11 million in the same period. Despite its relatively small market, India’s push for clean energy and EV incentives make it attractive for Tesla, especially as the company faces slowing global sales.

Tesla’s latest hiring drive suggests it is preparing to establish operations in India, potentially bringing its premium EV lineup to the country in the near future.
