Two versions of the Model Y are now available, the rear-wheel drive model priced at ₹60.1 lakh (around $70,000) and the long-range variant at ₹67.8 lakh (around $79,000). These prices are much higher than in other countries because of the high taxes on imported cars in India. For comparison, the Model Y starts at around ₹38.6 lakh in the US, ₹30.5 lakh in China, and ₹46 lakh in Germany.

Tesla is targeting wealthy city buyers in India and plans to compete with premium electric car brands like BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Although most vehicles in India still run on petrol or diesel, the electric car market is slowly growing. The government hopes to increase electric vehicle sales to 30% by 2030, from just 4% now by offering tax benefits and other incentives too.
Reports add that the second showroom will come up in Delhi.
