The chirping bird which in many ways epitomised the essence of Twitter (Twitter refers to the sound birds make) has now been relegated to make way for the X logo which also in many ways epitomises Elon Musk’s vision for the site.
Prior to taking over Twitter, he had in one media interaction stated his intention to make an “everything app,X”. Currently Twitter has been merged into X-Corp, a privately held corporation. Elon Musk had earlier opened a channel to accept submissions for the X logo’s design. The long term plan seems to be that of remodelling Twitter around China’s WeChat. China’s WeChat has provisions for booking a taxi and paying bills as well.
The X symbol supposedly symbolises the imperfections that make human beings unique. The tentative X logo is minimalist. Twitter user Sawyer Merritt, who runs a clothing business had suggested the design that is eventually being put into use. She had eventually conceived it for a podcast series she had thought of starting but due to various reasons put on hold. The move is being viewed with ample skepticism as the symbol of the bird was more than just a logo and had become a cultural lexicon.
