GK Ventures, a Kannada film company that had also produced Karnataka Ayodhyepuram (2014) has claimed ownership of the title “Story of Sowjanya'' with the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC). V. Lava who had also directed Karnataka Ayodhyepuram and is currently in the post production stage of Mr Natwarlal is rumored to be the director of this film as well.
The 11 year old case with many twists and turns along the way has been of much intrigue to the people of Karnataka. The family of Sowjanya have demanded that the investigations pertaining to the murder be reopened highlighting that there were many lapses in the due process.
Sowjanya’s mother Kusumavati during a press meet on 24th June said, “The post-mortem of our daughter has not been done properly. The police have not done any serious investigation into the rape and murder. We want the police to inquire into the three persons from Dharmasthala, whom we have suspected for a long time behind the murder. This is the least that the Congress government can do to compensate for Sowjanya’s death”. This was after Santosh Rao was acquitted by the CBI. Kusumavati’s brother Vittal Gowda during the press meet said, “The judgment acquitting Rao was not a surprise. The police had arrested an innocent person and did not inquire into the other three suspects in Dharmasthala.”
