A birthday celebration turned sour for a family on Mangammanapalya Main Road, Madeena Nagar, after two thieves made off with 30 grams of gold and Rs 2.3 lakh in cash last week. The incident took place while the family of Akbar Shariff, a textile shop owner, had gathered on the ground floor, leaving the first floor vulnerable.

According to police, the scooter-riding suspects had attempted to enter several homes in the area earlier that day but had been unsuccessful in finding valuables. Around 6:25 p.m., they spotted the festivities at Shariff's home and seized the opportunity, climbing the stairs to the first floor and quickly stealing whatever gold and cash they found.
Their getaway was almost hindered by a sudden power cut, which plunged the area into darkness. Taking advantage of the confusion, the thieves attempted to return to the first floor to search for more valuables but were confronted by Shariff’s uncle. Feigning ignorance, they claimed to be searching for “Gopal” and fled when told no such person lived there. Suspicious, Shariff’s family discovered the missing valuables and reported the incident to Bandepalya police.
Shariff later reviewed CCTV footage that showed the duo, both appearing to be in their 20s, carrying a backpack for their loot. Police are investigating similar reports in the neighborhood, suspecting the same individuals, and say they have vital clues that could lead to an arrest soon.
