Karnataka Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre has ordered an urgent investigation into the deaths of a tigress and her four cubs, found dead in the Male Mahadeshwara Hills Wildlife Sanctuary in Chamarajanagar district. Forest officials believe the tigress and her four cubs may have been poisoned. There were no visible injuries, and the animals were found near a watering hole, raising concerns that they may have eaten meat laced with toxic substances. The case is being treated as a possible wildlife crime, and efforts are on to find out who may be behind it. Authorities are taking the matter seriously and are working to ensure the safety of other animals in the area.

Veterinarians are carrying out post-mortem examinations as per NTCA (National Tiger Conservation Authority) rules. They’ve collected samples of the animals’ tissue, blood, and stomach contents for further tests, including toxicology, pathology, and DNA analysis. Meanwhile, surveillance in the Hugyam forest range has been increased.

To help with the investigation, security has been increased in the Hugyam range. Drones, GPS, infrared cameras, and CCTV are being used more often in the area. Officials have closed off the site and are working all day and night to stop such incidents from happening again. The inquiry team is expected to give a full report in the next few days.
