The arrest of the Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal has been a significant event in the lead up to the 2024 Lok Sabha Election. His refusal to resign and function as the Chief Minister from the jail is being followed keenly by people across India. Leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have claimed that the series of incidents have had a negative impact on his health. “Arvind Kejriwal ji is a severe diabetic. Despite health issues, he remained engaged 24 hours a day in the service of the country. Since his arrest, Kejriwal’s weight has decreased by 4.5 kg. This is very worrying. The BJP is putting his health at risk by putting him in jail. If something happens to Arvind Kejriwal, not just the whole country, even God will not forgive them,” Minister of Education of Delhi Atishi Marlena stated on the microblogging site X (formerly known as Twitter).

The Tihar jail authorities have however provided a clarification with regard to this allegation. “On arrival on 01.04.2024, Arvind Kejriwal was examined by two Doctors and all vitals were normal. Also, his weight is constant at 65 Kg, since arrival to jail and till date. Home-cooked food is being provided as per Court order. His vital statistics are normal,” a statement from the jail authorities mentioned.
