A 22-year-old social media influencer, Liv Schmidt, has been banned from TikTok after facing criticism for promoting anorexic behavior through her videos focused on dieting and calorie restriction. Schmidt, who had amassed over 670,000 followers, had her account disabled last week following a profile by The Wall Street Journal that raised concerns about her content. In response to inquiries about Schmidt’s videos, TikTok took action and removed her account.

Despite this setback, Schmidt quickly returned to the platform with a new account, continuing to post similar content. As per reports, a TikTok representative confirmed that her original account was removed for violating community guidelines, which prohibit the promotion of disordered eating and dangerous weight loss practices. "We do not allow showing or promoting disordered eating and dangerous weight loss behaviors," the guidelines state.
Schmidt's videos have sparked significant debate online, as they contribute to the ongoing discourse surrounding unhealthy and rapid weight loss methods. This issue is particularly relevant in the context of popular weight-loss medications like Ozempic, which have gained traction among celebrities. Critics argue that such content can lead to disordered eating patterns, highlighting the need for responsible social media practices.
