In a renewed bid to reclaim public space and decongest the city’s infamously clogged roads, Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara has announced the reintroduction of vehicle towing in Bengaluru. The decision comes in the wake of recent heavy rains that have exposed severe flaws in the city's infrastructure.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Parameshwara emphasized that indiscriminate parking, especially in unspecified and no-parking zones, is a major obstruction to both vehicular and pedestrian movement. “We had towing in place earlier, and it’s now being brought back to deal with increasing violations and to recover lost space,” he said.

The minister also acknowledged that the city’s recent rainfall had not only worsened traffic congestion but caused waterlogging and inundation in several areas, affecting hundreds of households. “The rains have shown us where the gaps are. We’re working closely with BBMP to address them,” he added.

Bengaluru, despite being a tech hub, has garnered global attention for its chronic traffic issues. The government, Dr. Parameshwara said, is actively working on a multi-pronged approach to restore order and ensure safer, smoother roads for all.

From infrastructure upgrades to enforcement measures like towing, the government’s efforts signal a renewed push to make Bengaluru a more liveable city.
