Hyderabad's Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRA) has initiated the demolition of actor Nagarjuna’s N-Convention Centre, citing violations related to the Full Tank Level (FTL) area and buffer zone of Thammidikunta Lake.

The decision follows a recent directive by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to create lake protection committees in response to a troubling 61% reduction in Hyderabad’s lakes between 1979 and 2024, as reported by the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC). Nagarjuna’s convention centre was reportedly built on 1.12 acres within the FTL area and an additional 2 acres in the buffer zone, with the FTL of Thammidikunta Lake covering approximately 29.24 acres.

Despite years of scrutiny, previous actions against the property were stalled, allegedly due to the influence of the convention centre’s management. An official complaint was lodged by Telangana's Minister of Roads and Buildings, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, to HYDRA, supported by maps indicating the encroachment.

In response, Nagarjuna defended the legality of his property on social media, asserting that no FTL land was encroached upon and expressing willingness to handle the demolition himself if judicial verdicts were unfavorable.

HYDRA, led by IPS officer AV Ranganath, has been active in demolishing illegal constructions to reclaim encroached land, having recently addressed similar issues at Bum-Rukn-Ud-Dowla lake and Gandipet reservoir.
