Bengaluru ranks third in India’s philanthropy list with ₹1,588 crore in donations, led by Nandan Nilekani, Rohini Nilekani, and Nikhil Kamath
Bengaluru has emerged as one of India’s top philanthropic cities, securing the third spot nationally in charitable contributions this year. According to the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2025, donors from the city collectively contributed over ₹1,588 crore, reflecting a strong commitment to social development and transformative causes.
Leading the city’s donor list is Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, who donated ₹365 crore, reinforcing the role of business leaders in driving impactful change. Close behind are Ranjan Pai and family of the Manipal Foundation with ₹160 crore, and Azim Premji and family with ₹147 crore, continuing their legacy of sustained giving.
Women philanthropists have also made a significant mark. Rohini Nilekani, aged 66, contributed ₹204 crore, making her the most generous woman on the national list. Biotech pioneer Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw added ₹83 crore, further highlighting the diverse leadership in Bengaluru’s giving ecosystem.

Among younger donors, Nikhil Kamath, 39, stands out as the youngest philanthropist on the national list for the fourth consecutive year. Through the Rainmatter Foundation, his family donated ₹147 crore, showcasing the growing influence of next-generation leaders in social impact.
While Mumbai and New Delhi lead the national rankings with ₹2,649 crore and ₹3,266 crore respectively, Bengaluru’s philanthropic culture continues to thrive, driven by innovation, inclusivity, and long-term vision.
The city’s donors are not only addressing immediate community needs but are also investing in sustainable solutions across education, healthcare, and environmental initiatives. Bengaluru’s rise as a philanthropic hub reflects a broader shift in how wealth is being channeled toward meaningful change, positioning the city as a beacon of generosity and progressive leadership in India.
