Incomplete white-topping on Bengaluru’s J.C. Road creates major traffic jams and hits businesses, as the project nears its deadline with little progress.
As the deadline for the ongoing white-topping project on Bengaluru’s J.C. Road approaches, the stretch from Minerva Circle to Town Hall continues to experience severe delays and disruptions. Despite the scheduled completion by October 31, much of the 1.5 km stretch remains unfinished, leading to persistent traffic congestion and frustration among commuters and traders alike.
Motorists passing through this key route, which connects South Bengaluru to central districts, face significant challenges each day. Incomplete roadwork, open ditches, and uneven surfaces have left the thoroughfare unsafe and difficult to navigate, often resulting in commutes extending by nearly an hour. The lack of proper barricades and maintenance has exacerbated these issues, raising concerns about public safety.

Local businesses, especially the many automobile spare parts and accessory shops lining J.C. Road, report a troubling decline in customers. Accessibility issues and limited parking due to the construction have pushed patrons to seek alternatives, such as online shopping and smaller local workshops. Although recent changes in GST rates by the central government brought some relief to the automobile sector, traders said the ongoing roadwork has overshadowed these benefits, negatively impacting sales over the past several months.
The congestion has also spread to surrounding areas, with S.P. Road affected by vehicles and street vendors crowding the carriageway. Residents complain about recurring issues such as garbage accumulation, drainage leaks, and small accidents. Despite multiple inspections by civic officials, including GBA and Corporation authorities, tangible progress has been minimal.
With the deadline looming, traffic police and affected traders are urging local authorities to act swiftly and complete the remaining work, highlighting the urgent need for better management to restore normalcy and prevent further economic losses.
