This is a piece of news that the Transport Minister himself might find it hard to digest.  Bengaluru Traffic Police have revealed that BMTC buses are arguably the major cause for traffic jam in Bengaluru. Data from Bengaluru Traffic Police has revealed the reason behind the traffic congestion in the city.

Traffic is one of the biggest challenges for Silicon City people. Millions of people travel to different parts of the city daily through BMTC buses. But these buses halt at various bus stops to pick up passengers causing traffic snarls around buses as they stop in the middle of the road. BMTC buses breaking down in the middle of the road are also seen as a major cause for huge traffic jam.

Every day, four to five buses break down in the middle of the road in this way, and smooth traffic is hampered by the broken down buses. BMTC is on the first place among the buses that broke down in the middle of the road this year, as many as 1,478 BMTC buses broke down this year. Here are monthly stats on bus breakdown: January 152, February 158, March 160, April 110, May 112, June 130, July 160, August 167, September 159 and October 170.

BMTC along with KSRTC buses also stop in the middle of the road causing traffic jam and trouble for commuters. The people of Bengaluru demand that the transport department pays attention to this problem, work to repair such buses and address this issue.
