In a heartbreaking incident, two siblings had drowned in Kengeri Lake on Monday evening - after many hours of search operations, their bodies have been recovered. The victims, 11-year-old Laxmi and her 13-year-old brother Srinivas, lived nearby with their single mother, who works for the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

Reports indicate that the children ventured to the lake to fetch water when their pot accidentally fell in. Eyewitness accounts suggested that they did not intend to swim and attempted to retrieve the fallen vessel. Authorities received an alert about the incident between 5:30 PM and 6 PM, and a distress call was made to the fire department around 8:30 PM. A fire tender was dispatched, but the search operation was halted due to poor lighting conditions, and search operations were resumed at 6 AM on Tuesday. Unfortunately, the siblings couldn’t be saved and their dead bodies were recovered today.
The local community is mourning the tragedy, highlighting the dangers associated with the lake and the need for improved safety measures in such areas. This incident comes on the heels of another tragedy in Bengaluru, where a 56-year-old woman named Mallika died after a collision while navigating potholes during heavy rains, marking the city's first rain-related fatality this year. In a separate occurrence, a physically challenged woman fell into a pothole in Varthur, drawing attention to the ongoing challenges posed by the city's infrastructure during the rainy season.
