The film industry was struck with tragedy as stuntman Elumalai succumbed to injuries sustained during an accident on the set of the highly anticipated movie 'Sardar 2,' directed by PS Mithran and starring Karthi. The fatal incident occurred on July 16 at LV Prasad Studios in Saligramam, Chennai.

The 54-year-old stuntman fell from a 20-foot rostrum while performing an action sequence, leading to severe injuries. Despite immediate medical attention at a nearby multi-specialty hospital, Elumalai passed away around 11:30 pm due to internal hemorrhage.

Prince Pictures, the production company behind 'Sardar 2,' issued a heartfelt statement expressing their sorrow. "We regret to report the death of Mr. Elumalai, a member of the Stunt Union who worked as a stunt rig man on our film 'Sardar 2.' After filming stunt sequences on the evening of July 16, Mr. Elumalai accidentally fell from a 20-foot rostrum. Despite intensive medical treatment, he unfortunately passed away," the statement read.

The tragic accident has halted the film's production. The Virugambakkam police are currently investigating the incident.

'Sardar 2,' officially launched with a pooja ceremony on July 12, began shooting on elaborate sets at Prasad Studios on July 15.

Director PS Mithran and Karthi previously collaborated on 'Sardar,' a 2022 spy thriller that received widespread acclaim. The untimely death of Elumalai has cast a shadow over the sequel's production.
