In a tight box office race this Dussehra, Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video has narrowly outperformed Jigra, raking in Rs 6.75 crore on its second day compared to Rs 6.50 crore for Jigra. Vicky Vidya, directed by Raaj Shaandilya and starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri, kicked off with Rs 5.25 crore on day one, ahead of Alia Bhatt's Jigra, which opened at Rs 4.55 crore. However, by the second day, the gap between the two narrowed significantly. Vicky Vidya saw less than a 30% increase, signaling modest growth. Despite the solid performances by Rajkummar Rao and Vijay Raaz, the film has been marred by poor reviews and a controversy regarding its unauthorized use of the character Stree.
Karan Johar'sJigra, featuring Alia Bhatt and newcomer Vedang Raina, also faced challenges. Though it saw a 30% boost on its second day, the film has been hampered by negative reviews and accusations of inflated box office figures as alleged by actress Divya Khosla. Critics have called it one of Bhatt's weakest openers in a decade.
With both films facing lukewarm reception and controversies, their long-term box office success remains uncertain.
