President-elect Donald Trump has called for the abolition of daylight saving time (DST) in the United States, describing the practice as disruptive and economically inefficient. In a statement shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump criticized the biannual clock adjustments as an outdated policy that inconveniences Americans. He will take office as the 47th President of the United States on January 20.

Daylight saving time, which shifts clocks forward in March and back in November, has long been a topic of debate. The time changes occur at 2:00 a.m. local time on designated Sundays. While proponents argue it conserves energy and maximizes daylight, detractors point to its negative effects on health, productivity, and schedules. Trump has aligned with the critics, asserting that the drawbacks far outweigh any benefits.

The Republican Party, soon to hold majorities in both the House and Senate, appears ready to support this move. Senator Marco Rubio, Trump’s nominee for Secretary of State, has been a leading voice in the campaign to end DST. Rubio previously introduced the Sunshine Protection Act, a bill proposing a shift to permanent standard time nationwide.

With Republican backing and growing public support, efforts to eliminate daylight saving time could gain momentum under Trump’s administration, potentially bringing an end to the century-old system.
