US President Donald Trump acknowledged the long-standing tension between India and Pakistan in light of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent tourists, most of them being Hindus. Trump remarked that conflict between two nations, particularly over Kashmir, has persisted for centuries.

“I’m very close to both India and Pakistan,” Trump said, adding, “They’ve had that fight for 1000 years in Kashmir, maybe even longer (sic)”. He referred to the recent attack in Baisaran meadow, near Pahalgam, as a particularly severe incident and one of the deadliest in the region in recent times.
Trump further noted that tensions have flared along the India-Pakistan border for over 1500 years, implying that such strife has deep historical roots. However, he expressed hope that both countries would find a way to resolve their differences. “ I know both leaders…there is great tension, but there always has been,” he said.
India has responded to the Pahalgam attack by announcing a range of retaliatory measures against Pakistan, aiming to hold it accountable for continued cross-border terrorism.
