At a high-profile AI Summit in Washington on Wednesday, former US President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to American tech giants, urging them to halt overseas hiring practices and refocus on domestic job creation. Companies like Google and Microsoft were singled out as Trump criticised the tech sector’s reliance on foreign talent, particularly from India and China.

Positioning himself as a champion of American workers, Trump claimed that the global hiring model had sidelined domestic talent while benefiting from US freedoms and incentives. He called for an end to what he termed the tech industry’s "globalist mindset," urging a renewed spirit of nationalism within Silicon Valley and beyond.
In a significant policy move, Trump also signed three executive orders aimed at accelerating the United States’ artificial intelligence capabilities. The centerpiece of his AI strategy, titled "Winning the Race," includes fast-tracking data centre construction and easing regulations for infrastructure critical to AI development.
Another order mandates political neutrality in AI models developed with federal funding, a direct challenge to what Trump described as biased and “woke” systems.
The new framework sets a clear expectation: AI development must align with national interests and uphold conservative principles.
