U S President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Russia, threatening to impose severe tariffs unless a ceasefire is reached in Ukraine within the next 50 days. Speaking from the White House, Trump stated that if no agreement is made, the United States would move forward with secondary tariffs at a rate of 100 percent.

The President’s comments come amid growing dissatisfaction with Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions in the prolonged war with Ukraine. Trump, who has returned to office this year, has increasingly criticized Putin for claiming to seek peace while continuing deadly missile attacks on Ukrainian cities. He expressed disappointment with what he described as Putin’s duplicity, talking of peace by day and launching strikes by night.

As tensions escalate, Trump also announced plans to strengthen Ukraine’s defenses. The United States will be supplying Patriot missile systems and other military equipment through NATO partners to bolster Ukraine’s ability to counter Russian aggression. Discussions are underway for certain NATO countries to rotate or replace their current systems to support this effort swiftly.

Trump emphasized that multiple peace deals had previously been on the table, but each attempt collapsed due to renewed Russian attacks. His remarks signal a shift in U S policy, driven by frustration over the length and brutality of the war. He reiterated that thousands of lives have been lost, and that Russia’s actions continue to destabilize global security.

Supporting Trump’s stance, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte urged Russia to take the threat of tariffs seriously and reconsider its approach to negotiations. The coordinated message reflects mounting Western pressure on Moscow to de-escalate the conflict and return to diplomatic solutions.
