The selection of a site for Bengaluru’s second international airport has turned into a political contest, as senior Congress leaders advocate for locations within their constituencies. Initially a policy-driven decision, the issue has evolved into a power struggle, with leaders pushing for areas that could strengthen their political influence.

One proposed site is Tumakuru, which has been highlighted for its rapid growth and potential inclusion in an expanded Bengaluru city boundary under the Greater Bengaluru plan. Another suggested location lies between Bidadi and Harohalli, an area close to Kanakapura, which is expected to be incorporated into the expanded city limits along with Ramanagara.
Amid these competing interests, efforts are being made to secure official support for preferred sites. Requests have been put forth to key infrastructure authorities, emphasizing economic growth and regional connectivity. However, as different factions continue to press their cases, the choice of location has become as much about political strategy as it is about urban development.
The final decision will play a significant role in shaping Bengaluru’s infrastructure landscape. With multiple leaders vying for influence over the project, the matter remains unresolved, and the competition over the site is set to intensify further.
