The Karnataka government is considering a proposal to bring Tumakuru under the jurisdiction of the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), according to Home Minister G Parameshwara. The proposal comes amid growing demands to improve connectivity between Tumakuru and Bengaluru, including the extension of the Bengaluru Metro to the industrial town.

Speaking to the media, Parameshwara, who also oversees the Tumakuru district, highlighted the region's rapid development and industrial growth. Located about 70 km from the state capital, Tumakuru hosts a major industrial hub spread over 20,000 acres. He indicated that integrating Tumakuru with Greater Bengaluru could accelerate its development, similar to how Ramanagara was renamed Bengaluru South.

The GBA was officially established last month following the passage of the GBA Act in the Karnataka Assembly. The Act enables the inclusion of surrounding panchayats into the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits and allows the formation of multiple city corporations under one authority.

The move also aligns with ongoing calls to extend metro services to Tumakuru. Parameshwara acknowledged that both metro and suburban rail connectivity are being considered, especially with Union Minister V Somanna supporting the idea of improved transit links.

Meanwhile, responding to recent media speculation about a possible portfolio change, Parameshwara dismissed the reports as baseless and criticized outlets for spreading misinformation without proper verification.
