In a tragic incident, two Indian students from Cleveland State University, Manav Patel (20) and Saurav Prabhakar (23), lost their lives in a car accident in Lancaster City, Pennsylvania, on May 10. According to authorities, the vehicle crashed into a tree and then struck a bridge near the Reading Interchange on the eastbound side of the Pennsylvania Turnpike in Brecknock Township. Saurav Prabhakar was driving at the time of the crash. A third passenger, seated in the front, sustained injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

The Consulate General of India in New York expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the families. It also assured that support is being provided to the bereaved families.
The Lancaster County Coroner's Office confirmed that both students died due to multiple traumatic injuries and classified their deaths as accidental.
This incident comes just weeks after another Indian student, Harsimrat Kaur Randhawa, was killed in Canada by a stray bullet while waiting at a bus stop. These incidents have reignited concerns over the safety of Indian students abroad.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, 91 attacks on Indian students abroad have been reported in the last five years, with 30 resulting in fatalities. Canada leads the list with the highest number of violent cases, followed by Russia, the UK, and the US.
