Mumbai Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, 66, who was shot dead in Bandra last night. The suspects, Gurmail Baljit Singh, 23, from Haryana, and Dharamraj Kashyap, 19, from Uttar Pradesh, claimed ties to the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang, according to police sources. However, authorities have yet to confirm the gang's involvement, and Bishnoi's gang has not taken responsibility for the killing.

Siddique, a prominent member of the Ajit Pawar-led faction of the Nationalist Congress Party and a three-time MLA from Bandra West, was shot multiple times outside his son's office. Police suspect the attack, carried out by three men, may have been a contract killing. While two suspects were arrested, the third remains at large.
Sources say the suspects had been conducting a month-long recce before the attack. Investigators are looking into possible motives, including a gang-related connection and Siddique’s involvement in a slum rehabilitation case. Given Siddique’s ties to Bollywood star Salman Khan, who has been threatened by the Bishnoi gang, security concerns have heightened.
Central agencies are assisting in the probe as the police track leads across multiple states, including Gujarat and Delhi. Four special teams have been deployed to investigate.
