The entry of two-wheelers has been banned on the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway, which is currently operational on the Karnataka side. The decision follows a tragic accident in Bangarpet taluk, Kolar district, that claimed four lives on Sunday night. Concerned about public safety, authorities have directed officials to enforce strict vigilance and prevent motorcycles from accessing the high-speed corridor.

To ensure compliance, officials will increase patrolling at the entry and exit points of the expressway. Signboards will also be installed to warn motorists against using the road. The move comes as part of efforts to prevent further accidents, particularly involving two-wheelers, which are not permitted on expressways in India.
Designed for speeds of up to 120 km per hour, expressways are not safe for bikers. Despite this, many two-wheeler riders had been using the road since its unofficial opening last month. Authorities have emphasized that entering the expressway illegally not only endangers bikers but also poses risks to other motorists.
The 68-km operational stretch in Karnataka is part of the larger 260-km Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway, which will connect Hoskote in Karnataka to Sriperumbudur near Chennai. While the Karnataka section is complete, the remaining portion in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu is expected to be opened by the end of the year.
