Uber has introduced its "Uber Green" services in Bengaluru, Karnataka, allowing users to seamlessly book environmentally friendly rides using electric vehicles.
The cab aggregator has initiated this eco-conscious service in various areas of central Bengaluru, with plans to expand its coverage to other parts of the city soon.
Reports suggest that the inaugural ride of the green vehicles was officiated by Priyank Kharge, the Karnataka Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Information Technology, and Bio Technology, during his participation in the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2023 near the Palace Grounds.
Uber's green services, already established in multiple global locations, are now accessible to customers in Bengaluru through the Uber Green option on the app, effective immediately. This initiative empowers riders to make environmentally responsible choices, contributing to a more sustainable mode of transportation.
Addressing the launch, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge emphasized the shared responsibility of improving air quality in Bengaluru. He commended Uber's commitment to a green summit and highlighted the tangible steps taken to bring about impactful and meaningful changes, fostering a culture of sustainability.
Uber's dedication to sustainability is unwavering, and the introduction of Uber Green in Bengaluru marks its second foray into this initiative in India, following its successful operation in Mumbai, where many riders have embraced the eco-friendly service.
