Unacademy has sacked its educator, Karan Sangwan, allegedly for sharing political views and opinion in an online class.

Karan claimed that Unacademy sacked him due to political pressure and had also deleted his profile on Unacademy.  Karan, in one of the online classes on Unacademy had asked students to vote for educated politicians. He had made a general statement in this regard and had not mentioned any specific politician or party.

He had shared his opinion and views in his online class on Unacademy while discussing the recent bills tabled in the parliament by the BJP-led union government to replace British-era IPC, CrPC and Indian Evidence Act.

Following the incident, Unacademy, in its statement said that “the classroom was not a place to share personal opinions and views and Karan had breached the terms of the contract and therefore the company had to part ways with him.”

Karan said “I made a general statement. I can guide people in the right way. I want educated people. Education is not what people study in classrooms. What I have learnt in my class is what I am imparting.”

Karan was working with Unacademy since 2021. His video had gone viral on social media and he claimed that he was misinterpreted in a wrong way.

Karan who also has his own YouTube channel said that he would also share details about this controversy on his channel.
