Officials from the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) had sought central assistance for this crucial project, and the funds are expected to be disbursed soon. Around 70% of the total allocation will be exclusively used for Phase 3, which has already received necessary approvals. With funding now secured, authorities anticipate accelerated progress in construction.
The Union Budget has significantly increased its metro project funding across the country, earmarking ₹31,239.28 crore this year— a sharp rise from last year’s ₹21,335.98 crore. Bengaluru Metro stands to benefit with a ₹1,717 crore share, reinforcing efforts to expand the city’s urban transit infrastructure.
Metro officials believe this financial boost will play a crucial role in easing congestion in Bengaluru, one of India’s fastest-growing cities. Official confirmation of the allocation details is expected within the next 15 days.
