Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her eighth consecutive budget presentation, announced the launch of the PM Dhan Dhyan Krishi Yojana, a major initiative aimed at strengthening India’s agricultural sector.
The scheme, developed in collaboration with state governments, will be rolled out in 100 districts, benefiting 1.7 crore farmers nationwide. The government aims to enhance agricultural productivity by providing financial support, especially to rural farmers and women.
In addition to this, Sitharaman unveiled a comprehensive scheme for fruits and vegetables, which is expected to boost production and efficiency in the sector. A Makana Board will also be established in Bihar to support farmers cultivating makhana (fox nuts), a key crop in the region. The initiative is designed to improve yields and provide better financial opportunities for makhana growers.
The finance minister emphasized that the scheme will focus on short-term agricultural loans, making credit more accessible to small and marginal farmers. By addressing financial constraints and improving access to resources, the government aims to drive rural development and strengthen India’s agricultural economy.
With agriculture being a key pillar of the Indian economy, these initiatives signal a strong commitment to empowering farmers and enhancing rural prosperity.
