After protests by aspirants across Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath government has decided to cancel the state police constable recruitment exam and conduct fresh examinations within the next 6 months. The examination had garnered limelight for having 48 lakh aspirants apply for the 67,000 vacancies across the state. The protests were prompted by the question paper being leaked just hours before the test commenced. “Orders have been given to cancel the UP Police Constable Recruitment Examination 2023 conducted for selection to the posts of Civil Police Reserve and to conduct re-examination within the next six months. There can be no compromise with the sanctity of examinations. The strictest action is certain to be taken against such unruly elements,” CM Yogi Adityanath said.
The issue became political as the opposition parties, Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Indian National Congress (INC) backed the protesters in their demand. Yogi Adityanath also made aggressive claims taking into account the aspirants’ outrage. “Injustice done to youth is a national sin. We have decided that we will adopt the policy of zero tolerance towards those who play with the lives and future of the youth and will deal with those elements strictly and harshly...When we take action, we do it in such a way that it sets an example,” he stated.
