In a significant update for digital payment users, several changes to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system will take effect from August 1, 2025. These changes will impact users of popular UPI apps such as PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, and others, with the primary goal of reducing server load and ensuring smoother transactions.

Balance Check Limit: Users will now be allowed to check their account balance only 50 times per day per app. For those using two apps, the combined daily limit is 100 checks. This move aims to control unnecessary server traffic from frequent balance inquiries.
Autopay Time Slots: UPI autopay for services like Netflix, YouTube, mutual funds, SIPs, EMIs, and utility bills will now be restricted to specific time windows: before 10 am, between 1 pm and 5 pm, and after 9:30 pm. These changes are designed to ease pressure during peak usage hours.
Transaction Status Check: If a transaction fails, users can check its status only three times a day, with at least 90 seconds between each attempt.
Payment Reversal Cap: Recipients can raise a maximum of 10 payment reversal requests in 30 days, with a cap of five per sender.
Bank Name Visibility: From this month, UPI apps will display the receiver’s bank name before confirming payment—minimizing errors.
These changes will be rolled out automatically; no action is needed from users.
