A case has been filed under the Indian Penal Code sections 171 (Wearing garb or carrying a token used by a public servant with fraudulent intent), 419 (impersonation), 500 (defamation), and 34 (common intention) against Urfi and four others over alleged defamation of the Mumbai police. Earlier a video was released wherein Urfi Javed was seen being escorted by some policemen from a cafe over allegedly inappropriate clothing. This was apparently orchestrated as part of promotional activities for a fashion brand. “One Can’t Violate Law Of The Land, For Cheap Publicity! A viral video of a woman being allegedly arrested by Mumbai Police, in a case of obscenity is not true – insignia & uniform have been misused. However, a criminal case has been registered against those involved in the misleading video, at Oshiwara Police Station under sections 171, 419, 500, 34 IPC. While further investigation is on, the fake inspector is under arrest & the vehicle has been seized too,” the Instagram account of Mumbai police stated.

The Mumbai were particularly worried that the public would get an indication that they are restricting people from wearing short dresses. “It has been learned that Javed has paid Rs 1,000 to each of the three people who played the role of cops. They are extras working in Bollywood. Meanwhile, she paid Rs2,000 to the production manager who provided her with three people to act for her in the 38-second video,” said a police officer of the Oshiwara police station.
