In the run-up to the US presidential election on November 5, the campaign trail has seen some heated exchanges between high-profile figures. Rapper Cardi B recently clashed with Tesla CEO Elon Musk over comments he made about her support for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. Recently, Musk called Cardi B a “puppet” for Harris’s campaign, suggesting her support lacked “authenticity or true empathy.” The remark was posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, alongside a clip of Cardi B speaking at a rally.

Cardi B swiftly fired back, emphasizing her lived experience and deep roots in America’s immigrant community. “I’m not a puppet, Elon,” she responded. “I’m a daughter of two immigrant parents who had to work hard to provide for me. I’m a product of welfare, Section 8, and poverty. You don’t know anything about the American struggle.” She ended her message with a jab at X’s new algorithm, saying, “PS, fix my algorithm.”

Cardi B’s rally speech also highlighted her alignment with Harris on women’s rights. “Like Kamala Harris, I’ve been the underdog, underestimated and belittled. Women have to work ten times harder to be taken seriously,” she stated. Meanwhile, a recent Carnegie Endowment survey suggests Harris may receive less support from Indian Americans than President Biden did in 2020, adding another challenge as she seeks to make history as the first Indian American president.
