In a tragic turn of events, what was meant to be a joyous adventure to the scenic beauty of Devbhoomi ended in disaster. A group of 22 trekkers from the Karnataka Mountaineer Association embarked on a trek to Sahasratal in Uttarakhand on 29th May, aiming to return home today. Unfortunately, extreme weather conditions transformed the snow into a deadly force, claiming the lives of nine trekkers.

The silence now permeates the homes that were once filled with laughter and conversation. Those who left for the tour in high spirits have returned in eternal sleep. The snow of Devbhoomi has taken nine adventurous souls, leaving their families in shock and grief.

The deceased—Padmini Hegde, Venkatesh Prasad, Asha, and Chitra—were transported from Delhi to Kempegowda Airport in Bengaluru by an Indigo flight, where their bodies were handed over to their grieving families.

This tragedy raises pressing questions about the safety and preparedness of experienced trekkers. The group, well-versed in adventurous trekking, was caught off guard by the severe weather. Had timely precautions been taken or rescue operations initiated earlier, these lives might have been saved.

As the bereaved families cope with their immense loss, the community mourns the trekkers who set out for an adventure but returned lifeless. The joyous steps taken towards Uttarakhand have tragically turned into a march towards death, leaving a void in the hearts of many.
