In a tragic incident early this morning, a helicopter traveling from Shri Kedarnath Dham to Guptkashi crashed near Gaurikund at approximately 5:20 AM. According to the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA), the helicopter was carrying seven individuals, six adults and one child, including the pilot.

The passengers on board hailed from various states, including Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. Initial reports suggest that the helicopter lost control shortly after takeoff, leading to the crash in the rugged terrain near Gaurikund, a region often frequented by pilgrims and known for its challenging weather and topography.
As soon as news of the crash broke, urgent rescue and relief operations were launched. Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed to the site. The authorities are yet to confirm the status of the passengers, and search operations are ongoing.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Officials are also looking into the weather conditions at the time of the flight and the technical status of the aircraft. Kedarnath-bound helicopter services have been temporarily suspended until further notice to ensure safety and assess the situation.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his condolences through a social media post, stating that distressing news had been received regarding a helicopter crash in Rudraprayag district. He mentioned that the SDRF, local administration, and other rescue teams were actively involved in relief and rescue operations at the site. The Chief Minister also offered prayers to Baba Kedar for the safety of all the travellers. The state government has assured complete support for the ongoing rescue efforts and has committed to conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
