The introduction of sleeper coaches to the Vande Bharat Express, India’s semi-high-speed train, marks a major milestone. These coaches, designed for overnight journeys, will enable passengers to travel long distances comfortably. Currently, Vande Bharat trains only offer seating options, but the addition of sleeper berths is set to revolutionize passenger experience.

In a social media post, Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan confirmed the dispatch of the first sleeper train set from BEML by September 20, highlighting its expected operational status by December. The sleeper coaches are a collaborative effort, being manufactured by both the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) and BEML.

These advanced sleeper coaches will feature wider berths, brighter interiors, and spacious toilets, enhancing passenger comfort. Additionally, the ICF is working on a new 12-coach variant called ‘Vande Metro,’ designed for short-distance travel.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, in a previous announcement, emphasized the transformative impact of the Vande Bharat sleeper trains.
