Vatal Nagaraj sported a burqa while holding a clay pot on his head during the ongoing Karnataka bandh. "You may call 'burqa' as a dress worn by Muslim women, but it represents the women of justice in the court,” when questioned about the attire by the media.
Vatal Nagaraj was detained outside where he had gathered with followers to protest the release of water to Tamil Nadu. Kannada Okkuta had given the call for the bandh. Pro-Kannada outfits were in the lead in the protests with other outfits offering them support as well. Vatal Nagaraj branded the protests as being successful.
Sandalwood actors Shivarajkumar, Darshan, Upendra, Dhruva Sarja, Srinath, Vijaya Raghavendra, Sri Murali, Umashree and Girija Lokesh showed their presence in a public meeting at the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) registering their dissent. Karnataka Auto and Taxi Drivers' Federation, Ola, Uber Drivers' and Owners' Association, Adarsha Auto and Taxi Drivers' Union and Auto Rickshaw Drivers' Union (ARDU) also participated in the protests.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda reported that no untoward incident was noted during the protests. "We have made over 150 preventive detentions. We are detaining those who violate Section 144 of the CrPC, which is in place till Friday midnight,” he stated.
