Ex-Indian-Pacer Venkatesh Prasad has been a vocal critic of the apparent mismanagement of the International Cricket Council (ICC) One Day International (ODI) Cricket World Cup (CWC) which is slated to begin on October 5th in India.
“There is no debate and doubt on the fact that we have messed up the lead up to the World Cup. Unreasonable delay in schedule in the first place and if that wasn’t enough changing the schedule hampering 5 matches in the process, if that wasn’t enough a completely non-transparent and inefficient ticket system only encouraging black marketeers,” he had remarked on X (formerly known as Twitter).
He was also critical of allocating a reserve day for India v/s Pakistan super-4s fixture. He questioned why such a preferential treatment is being given to just match even if it affects the qualification chances of other teams.
He highlighted incompetence and refusal to speak up by “Yes Men” in the BCCI.
“It takes one corrupt, arrogant guy to take away the hard work of an otherwise non-corrupt organisation and get a stamp of corruption on the whole leadership, not just on a micro level but at a larger level.” he stated in one his posts which led many to speculate that he is referring to Jay Shah, the Secretary of BCCI. however the post was deleted. It was later rehashed as “It takes one corrupt, arrogant guy to take away the hard work of an otherwise non-corrupt organisation and spoil the reputation of an entire organisation & the impact isn’t just micro but at a macro level. This is true in every field, be it politics, sports, journalism, or corporate.” This modification was made 17 hours after the initial post.
