In a tragic loss to the Indian film industry, legendary Telugu actor Kota Srinivasa Rao passed away early this morning at the age of 83. He had been suffering from serious health complications for the past few days. Despite age-related mobility challenges, he remained active in cinema until 2023, last appearing in the film Suvarna Sundari.

Kota Srinivasa Rao’s death has cast a pall of gloom over the South Indian film fraternity. With a career spanning over four decades, he featured in more than 750 films across multiple languages including Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam. Known for his versatility, he played memorable roles ranging from villainous characters to comedic and emotional parts, earning critical acclaim and fan admiration alike.

Born on July 10, 1942, in Kankipadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kota hailed from a family of professionals, his father, Seetharamanjaneyulu, was a doctor. Though initially inspired to follow in his father’s footsteps, Kota developed a passion for theatre during his school days. After completing his degree, he briefly worked at the State Bank of India, but eventually dedicated himself fully to acting.

Apart from his prolific film career, Kota also had a stint in politics. He served as an MLA from Vijayawada East constituency between 1999 and 2004. In Kannada cinema, he was seen in films like Namma Basava and Rakta Kanneeru.

Condolences are pouring in from political leaders, film personalities, and fans across the country, mourning the loss of an icon whose contribution to Indian cinema remains unparalleled.
