Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has faced a heartbreaking disqualification from the Paris Olympics after failing to meet the weight requirement for her 50 kg gold medal bout. Phogat was found to be approximately 100 grams over the weight limit during the mandatory weigh-in, resulting in her disqualification.

According to Olympic regulations, all competing boxers and wrestlers undergo a medical examination and weigh-in on each day of competition. Additionally, athletes receive a post-bout medical examination to ensure their health and safety. These stringent rules are in place to maintain fair competition and athlete well-being.

Phogat, who had been competing in the women's 53 kg category before taking a 15-month break, returned to action in January 2024. She even competed in the 53 kg category at the Tokyo Olympics. It required tremendous effort for Phogat to maintain her weight to compete in the women's 50 kg category over the past few months.

Despite her rigorous efforts, Phogat's slight weight excess led to her disqualification, shattering her hopes of winning a gold medal. The disqualification underscores the strict adherence to weight regulations in wrestling, where even a minor deviation can have significant consequences.
