Viral video exposes abuse at Bengaluru rehab centre, triggers arrests

A deeply disturbing case of abuse at a private rehabilitation centre near Bengaluru has sparked public outrage and led to multiple arrests. The incident, though it occurred earlier, only came to public attention recently after a video of the assault went viral online. This prompted swift action by the police, who confirmed that all individuals visible in the footage have been taken into custody.

The shocking CCTV footage shows a patient being violently attacked inside a room. One man is seen repeatedly beating the patient with a stick, while several others stand by without intervening. Another individual joins in the assault, also using a stick. The repeated violence and lack of action by others present have raised serious concerns about the conduct and culture within the facility, which is located around 30 kilometres from Bengaluru. 

What added to public anger was another set of visuals from the same centre, showing the accused celebrating a birthday. Disturbingly, a dagger was used during the cake-cutting ceremony, raising questions about the presence of weapons and the overall safety and supervision at the facility. 

Following the circulation of these videos, police registered a case under various charges, including sections of the Arms Act. An investigation is currently underway to uncover further details.
