  • Virat to join Sachin, Dravid and Dhoni in list
  • Kohli still has critics questioning place in the test squad
  • Kohli closes in on international record for quickest to reach 13,000 international runs

Virat joins an elite list of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni to have played 500 international matches inclusive of T20s , ODIs ( One Day International) and test matches. His test average has not risen above 30 in the last 3 years despite patches of brilliance amidst this stagnant phase. With other contenders for his spot such as Sarfaraz Khan, he would be looking forward to putting in a strong performance in the 2nd test to put the doubts of his critics to rest.

He is already closing on another gigantic international record of being the fastest to reach 13,000 runs in ODI cricket in terms of innings. He is presently poised at 12,898 runs from 274 matches. Sachin Tendulkar holds the record at having reached the milestone in 321 innings. Although in terms of number of days, Sachin is still unassailable, having reached the milestone after 14 years and 89 days post his debut. Kohli is currently 14 years and 327 days into his career. He could still end up 2nd on the list ahead of Ricky Ponting who reached the figure 15 years and 135 days into his career.
